    First Benchmark 2008

Students are completing their first benchmarks these last weeks of November. Many students are now using their expanded language skills to provide academic carryover. As explained in my first entry- all students have reviewed their goals in their scrapbook pages.
many students meeting their goals are now involved in a variety of carryover activities: learning vocabulary from the recent election, reading Middle School Newsletters with clear speech sounds, and trying to stump the Speech Pathologist during a round of wheel of fortune .
December will include a holiday lunch as well as a special gift wrapping event.
Social Language skills are used heavily by our Middle School students this time of year. Please review language skills such as explaining an event, providing directions, looking and thinking with your eyes to read social cues before talking, and writing notes of thanks.
I am very proud of all of my students this tri!!!! See you in 2009:) Ms. Silvertrust

What a great year all of the Communication Skills have had- I am thrilled to see them using so many Upper Level Language skills on a daily basis.

For those students moving on to High School- IEP information will be sent on to their new teams. If any questions come up over the summer please e mail me- all the best. Ms. Silvertrust:) April 2008

MAY DAY BUFFET DAY EVENT IS SCHEDULED

Although May is far away- Communication Skills students have learned all year about planning ahead. All students will be participating in our annual May event. This year students will be cooking a recipe at home with friends from their Communication sessions. The students are required to write up the directions in their own words ( using skills reviewed all year such as- words with multiple meanings, synonyms, or figurative language- even words with many R or S sounds). The event is scheduled for May 1st during all 3 lunch periods- ask you child about it. Awards will be provided for ALL students- as always this will be a very special day !!!!

    December Holiday Events 2007

This year our Communication Skills students are sponsoring a fundraiser to assist local animal shelters. We are working with Student Council and Try students. We are assisting during the Dilly bar sale as well as offering homemade dog treats- all proceeds will be donated.
Students have been planning a special Holiday event as well. Students are reviewing Language processing skills such as sequencing, following directions, problem solving, and simultaneous chit-chat. Presents will be taken home for parents or other family members. Students have reviewed writing holiday cards with sentences longer than 3 words:) Have a fantastic Winter Break filled with special family moments. Ms. S-trust
